A Few Words About Our Village and Family

Mountainous Massif of Zygos: Geomorphological Characteristics
The production base of APEIROS is located exclusively in Zygos, Arta. This is a mountainous settlement, situated at an altitude of 500 meters, which presents specific topographical and microclimatic advantages for olive cultivation. The sloping terrain ensures optimal drainage, preventing moisture stagnation in the root system, while continuous exposure to air currents acts as a deterrent to the development of fungal diseases. All our olive groves are cultivated under dry farming conditions (non-irrigated). The absence of artificial irrigation induces controlled water stress in the trees, a technical factor that decisively contributes to the concentration of juices and the exponential increase of polyphenol synthesis in the fruit.
Family Succession & Heredity
The management of the Apeiros olive groves is a continuation of the long-standing cultivation activity of Spyros Vlachos’s family. The ownership and care of the trees are a matter of succession, having been transferred from grandfather to father, and today to the current management. This continuous family management ensures a deep understanding of the idiosyncrasy of each estate and the specific needs of both centenarian and younger trees, preserving the genetic material and soil health in Zygos, Arta, intact.
Scientific Supervision & Technical Support
Despite the strong traditional foundation, the cultivation at Apeiros is governed by modern scientific standards. The Vlachos family collaborates closely with a specialized Agronomist who provides continuous technical guidance. This collaboration includes:
- Nutrition Protocols: Designing interventions utilizing exclusively certified organic inputs based on targeted soil analyses.
- Plant Protection: Preventative monitoring to deter entomological infestations without the use of chemical insecticides.
- Pruning Management: Application of techniques aimed at optimal aeration and lighting of the canopy, which are critical factors for polyphenol synthesis.
The family’s personal involvement at every stage—from winter care to the on-site supervision of the harvest—guarantees that theoretical agronomic knowledge is applied with absolute precision in the field.
